5 Mistakes You Need to Stop Making on Online Jobs PH

So, you want to be a successful Filipino Virtual Assistant.

One who consistently lands clients who pay well, pay on time, and offer jobs that are both challenging and satisfying?

If you are one of the millions of Filipino VAs looking for work using Online Jobs PH, I have to be honest with you… the odds are against you.

Why?

Because you are likely making some, if not all, of these fatal mistakes in your application process.

  1. You cut and paste the same ‘Hi my name is XYZ and I am the (insert some boastful adjectives) VA you are looking for.

Sending the same message to several job postings amounts to spamming and shows that you didn’t put an effort in the application.

2. You don’t do anything to personalize the message to show the job title, the name of the employer or any acknowledgement that you know anything about them.

When responding to a job post, you need to make an effort to know about the company. While job postings do not always indicate the name of the business or the contact person, you should perform due diligence so you can personalize your message as much as you can.

3. You do not go back to their posting and use some of their keywords in your reply, instead you use boastful language and start every sentence with “I”.

Keywords are words or phrases that relate to the requirements of a job. They are words that hiring managers use to filter resumes.

If the company you are applying for uses an automated applicant tracking system (ATS), your application may be eliminated simply because it is missing certain keywords. So, make sure that you use relevant keywords in your cover letter and resume to show that you fit the requirements of the job.

4. You do not include a link to your resume or work portfolio in your message to them. Or you include everything you can link to without caring if what you send is relevant to what they need.

A resume and work portfolio are great for letting a prospective employer know your job experience and can help them decide whether you’re a good fit for the position or not. However, you shouldn’t just send a resume or portfolio without first checking if the information is relevant to the position you are applying for.

For example, you’re applying to be a graphic designer so your resume and portfolio need to show your experience and sample projects related to graphic design. There is no point in sending a portfolio of writing samples unless stated in the job post.

5. You do not follow the instructions written in the job post.

Some job posts include specific requirements, such as filling out a form or using keywords in the cover letter or email heading.

Failure to follow these instructions can make the employer think that you are just sending your applications without reading the job posting carefully / you didn’t understand the instructions / you don’t care about following them. All of these leave a negative impression.

Take a moment and think about what you are doing.

Why do you think a busy small business owner is going to be interested in you when you show no real interest in them?

You are asking them to hire you without making any effort to show them WHY they need to hire you.

Next time you apply for a job on OLJ, avoid the mistakes I discussed in this post and let me know how that goes for you!
